Wakiso Giants 1-0 Bukedea
Veteran midfielder Steven Bengo scored his first competitive goal in a Wakiso Giants shirt as the the club continued to flourish in the FUFA Big League.
Bengo’s strike inside the first half was all that Wakiso needed to squeeze past Bukedea in a 1-0 victory at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe, Jinja.
The midfielder had earlier struggled to get first place football at the big league side, highlighted by a recent suspension which was later overturned – The club had suspended the player after he went absentee without permission.
Bengo was in the past, regarded as one of Uganda’s best gifted players. He had a strong career with SC Villa before stints with Express FC and Tanzania’s Yanga FC.
In to game proper, Bengo and Norman Ogik missed golden chances but Bukedea failed to capitalise on the Wakiso’s misfortune to at least pick a point.
However, the victory cane at a cost for the hosts, who lost Hakim Ssenkumba after he was stretchered out with a back/hip injury in the 20th minute before he was replaced by Richard Gazza Kigozi.
The victory extends Wakiso’s lead at the top with 32 points, six ahead of Kyetume FC, their next opponent both in the league and Uganda Cup.
Also, Wakiso completes their double over Bukedea as the side won 1-0 courtesy of Luboobi Duff’s goal, in the reverse fixture.
