Basketball: Micomyiza Explains Why She Left UCU Lady Canons

Rosine Micomyiza is already back to her home country, Rwanda.

The point guard has revealed to SportsNation why she left UCU Lady Canons.

“There is nothing big,” started the skillful point guard. “Am just done with school and am waiting for my graduation in July.”

Cissy, as called by friends, joined the Mukono Christian Campus in 2015 and leaves the institute as a Business Administration holder.

When asked on why she didn’t pursue a Masters, which has been a common and wise norm for most Sports students at UCU, she revealed:

“I have many things am taking care of this way in Rwanda, including Family business where am helping out on my Mum.”

Big Blow For UCU

Without doubt, Micomyiza is probably the most talented point guard the League has seen in the last two seasons, a title she shares with KCCA’s Cynthia Irakunda.

Her absence distorts UCU’s plan to return to the top of the Women’s game which has been taken over by a new merging force – JKL Lady Dolphins.

Micomyiza averaged 25 minutes on court and 6 points per game last season. She totalled 26 steals and 69 rebounds from her 25 league games.

Rhoda Naggita who joined UCU from Javon Ladies a season back, remains the only outstanding pointer on the team but her availability is always limited by her injured knee.

I will miss Uganda – Micomyiza.

Micomyiza reflected on what she will miss from UCU and the Pearl of Africa in general.

“I Will miss team work of course and they way Coach Nick (Natuhereza) used to motivate us during practice even at games. I will miss the way we used to eat together after practice while telling stories, I will miss alot about my teammates because they had become my second family.

” I will miss Rolex (laughs), Matoke and G-nuts.”

She cited her best memory with UCU as the time she won the league title in 2015 (her first with UCU), and the three peat, as expected.

Micomyiza has now joined Rwanda’s Hoops Women Basketball Club, a team she earlier played for before joining UCU.

On the new endeavor, she commented: “I found my new team leading on the table so my plans are to help them winning the championship this year.”

Micomyiza played for Hoops during the Women’s day tournament and will also be ready for action when the second round tip-off next week as they face APR.

Hoops coach Eric Dusabimana who recently said that his target is to win the league, will now rely on Micomyiza’s fresh legs.

She will team up with teammates like Joyeuse Sifa Ineza and team captain Hope Butera to terrorise teams in the Rwanda Bank League.
