Uganda’s national U19 Cricket team will not be at the World Cup after suffering a big blow at the ongoing ICC Africa U19 World Cup DIV I Qualifiers in Windhoek, Namibia.

The Baby Cricket Cranes lost to Namibia, their second loss in a row, after winning the first opening two games of the campaign.

Coming into the game on the back of a disappointing 30 run loss to Nigeria, Cranes needed nothing but to bounce back. However, Namibia had other thoughts in mind.

“Every one wanted to win,” started Opening Bowler Trevor Bukenya reflecting on the loss. “Things just didn’t go our way. But we will try to raise our flag with honour when we face Tanzania.”

Uganda won the toss and elected to field, the hosts set 250 runs for the fall of five wickets (250/5).

Despite a strong start with Zephaniah Arinaitwe scoring 69 runs off 30 balls, the middle order and tail failed to put up a show as Perry Wazombe and Simon Okecho all eliminated with no run registered on their backs.

Cranes managed just 141 all out to lose by 109 runs.

The result all but ends Uganda’s chance to reach the ICC U-19 Africa Division II World Cup qualifiers later in South Africa, with a game against Tanzania still to come on Saturday.

Fixtures – March 23 – 10.30am
