Men: JKL Dolphins 50-46 Betway Power
Women: JKL Lady Dolphins 47-42 UCU Lady Canons
Both Men and Women JKL teams clinched the 2019 UCU Invitational tournament played at UCU courts in Mukono.
JKL Dolphins, who beat Pemba Warriors at the semis, needed overtime to outlast defending Champions Betway Power 50-46 in a closely contested final.
Yesman Bushiri and Joseph Wacha proved the slim difference for the Dolphins, the latter, who joined the team from Our Saviour scoring 14 points.
Power who looked worn out after eliminating resolute hosts UCU Canons, will have themselves to blame after bottling a 24-11 lead at halftime.
In the Women’s finals, JKL Lady Dolphins laboured to a 47-42 win against hosts and last year’s champions UCU Lady Canons.
The repeat of last year’s finals saw JKL make a late rally to win the last quarter 14-7 against Nicholas Natuhereza’s side.
Jamila Nansinkombi scored eight points for the victors, that also had Rita Imanishimwe and Hope Akello play an integral role.
JKL had overcome KCCA Leopards in the semis while UCU had eliminated Buddo SS to reach the finals.
City Oilers, KIU Titans and A1 Challenge were some of the National Basketball League teams that shunned the well organised Invitational tournament
