Express FC boss George Ssemwogerere has called for calm among fans of the club ahead of their derby encounter with SC Villa on Thursday.
Express FC will play host to old rivals SC Villa in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at Betway Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku, Kampala.
Ssemwogerere who was speaking ahead of the thriller, called on the fans to come in large numbers to show support to their team instead of abusing the players which he said that it will demotivate them.
The tall coach took up a daunting task when he replaced Coach Kefa Kisala at the beginning of February and the club has been blowing hot and cold.
His spell has seen the coach manage only one win in the league at Wankulukuku since taking over but Uganda Cup run in has been his main achievement.
“I call for patience from all our beloved fans”, said Ssemwogerere. “This is your club, they are your players and let’s all come together to see that we can move this club forward.”
“This is football and any result is possible. Show your support through thin and thick. We are in a rebuilding process and maximum corporation and patience is highly needed.
“Supporting Football does not relate to throwing insults to players, you are just demotivating them. I feel your need to win, but it will take some time.”
Express fans have vented their frustration towards Coach Ssemwogerere recently with some sections demanding for his resignation.
There was a reported exchange between the two parties after a 2-0 win against Paidha, as the fans accused Ssemwogerere of fielding defensive minded players.
Express are tenth on the 16 team log with 32 points and Coach Ssemwogerere believes that his side can still finish inside the top positions with just five games remaining.
The Red Eagles will face Bright Stars in the semis of this year’s Uganda Cup and the coach remains upbeat of a silverware.
Coach Ssemwogerere who also feels the frustration of the fans, has guided the club to five wins, two of those coming in Uganda Cup including a shootout against Police FC at Wankulukuku.
Against SC Villa, he will be taking charge of his eleventh (11) game at the club. BUL, Vipers and URA are the clubs that have beaten up on Ssemwogerere.
