Lugogo: Pemba Warriors and KIU Titans got off the mark but new comers Falcons faulted as the National Basketball League opening weekend continued at MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

KIU Titans put Kampala University to the sword, scoring a whooping 106 points as the Ggaba based institute only managed 75 despite having a strong start.

Denis Balungu (30 points), Michael Bwanga (21), Sudi Ulanga (17) and Henry Okoth (10) gave KIU the needed momentum to stop Kampala University’s early surge.

Ahmed Kassa scored 19 points while Moses Mugisha and Joram Kato added 16 and 11 each, in a losing effort.

The University derby

The Titans who were beaten finalists last season, would want to go an extra mile this season, and if we are to go with Sunday’s performance, Coach Brian Wathum’s side will be a strong force.

Falcons, joint league record holders put out a spirited fight before falling 59-63 to a hard Sharing Youth team.

Playing in a Chicago Bulls-like Jersey, Falcons led the first quarter 21-11 but failed to capitalise on their early start before Sharing Youth mounted a comeback.

David Donat and Caesar Kizito put up 25 and 11 points respectively for the Nsambya based side. Francis Karoro scored 19 points for Falcons, Dickson Asiku (19) and Douglas Uwizera (11) also hit double point figures for the sleeping giants.

Norman Blick (white) in KCCA colours

Ronnie Mutebi’s new looking warriors managed to outlast Bernis Ankunda’s KCCA Men to win 75-61 in the last game of the day.

New signings – veteran players Norman Blick and Geoffrey Omondi – tried to inspire KCCA but Warriors proved a spoonful on the night.
