UCU Lady Canons 67-76 JKL Lady Dolphins

UCU Lady Canons lacked enough armoury to gun down JKL as the side suffered their first loss of the 2019 season.
JKL continued to mean business with a dominant 76-67 victory, to win their second game from as many attempts. The side had beaten up on KCCA Leopards in the opener last Friday.
Captain Flavia ‘Flirsh’ Oketcho came off the bench to shoot lights out – making 5 of her 7 attempts from outside the three point arc on her way to garner a team high 19 points tally.
Hope Akello and Rita Imanishimwe contributed 16 and 12 points respectively for the defending champions.
The Lady Canons were depleted on the day as they played without Rhoda Naggita, Sarah Ageno, Shakira Nanvubya, Annet Among and Esther Akwap among others.
Zainah Lokwameri hit a game high 22 points but it was not enough to stop a high flying JKL side. Brenda Kayaga (10 points) and Maimuna Nabbosa (13 points) also put up strong performances in a losing effort.
The University side played the game with three bench players – Ruth Noela Leticia, Abei Priscilla and Sarafina Dracula – who produced 11 points against JKL’s 41.

UCU and KCCA are done. Who is next?
It might be too early to call but the fact that they have beaten up on their two title rivals, JKL can be excused if they brag that the titles is theirs to lose.
They are the defending champions and they did well in the transfer market. They have picked those two wins all in the absence of Coach Mandy Juruni. The confidence is now high.
With those two back to back performances, JKL’s peak is nowhere in sight.
Jamila Nansikombi was not at her best on the night by her standards, but managed to squeeze seven points, twelve rebounds and six assists on her bad day in office.
UCU started on a bright note when they led by 4-0 inside the first five minutes, but that is the only time they held a lead in the game.
Evelyn Nakiyinji scored a three pointer before adding a jumper to give JKL a 5-4 advantage and the defending champions never looked.
JKL took the first quarter 14-11 before adding more 24 and 21 points in the second and third quarter respectively to exert their dominance
With a 19 point lead (59-40) going into the last ten minutes, JKL ceased fire and held on to seal a 76-67 victory.
