JKL Dolphins managed to fight back before pushing aside Kampala University Eagles to go top of the National Basketball League table on Easter.

The Dolphins turned a 35-37 deficit at halftime into a 74-63 victory at the buzzer in a league game played at YMCA court in Wandegeya, Kampala.

Jude Ochen shot 5-15 from beyond the arc to collect 19 points, but it was Dudus who registered a man of the match performance with a double of 12 points and 14 rebounds on the day. Bernard Okumu and Ferdinand Odama also contributed double point figures – 14 and 13 points respectively.

JKL, who have played a game more, reach the top of the table after winning three games. The side had beaten up on Our Saviour and KCCA men in their first two games.

Warriors, City Oilers and UCU Canons follow on the table in that order with two wins each from as many games.

Daniel Manoja, Dudus as referred to many in the basketball circles credited the victory to maturity:

“Most importantly we got the win, we over underestimated our opponents because they are from the lower league and its their first time, they gave us a good fight.

It all goes down to maturity because we were able to persevere and do what the coach told us to do. We are not going to have any rest because we are playing power next and its a big game.”

Ochen, speaking about the result and his personal contribution, added:

“I tried to make the right plays, to make sure that we get the needed win. We are just trying to take the coach’s lead.

“Our defence was very weak and its something we have to work on this week the the rest will fall in.”
