Jamila ‘Zama’ Nansikombi came off the bench to give a player of the match performance as JKL Lady Dolphins eased past A1 Challenge.

The defending champions won 70-42 in a league game played at YMCA court in Wandegeya.

It was a close contest at the start, with JKL starting on court with Peace Nakirijja, Hope Akello, Flavia Oketcho, Jane Asinde and Feza Ebengo, but they managed to scrap through to a 12-9 first quarter lead.

JKL started to break away slowly before taking a 31-17 lead at halftime. The Dolphins won the next two quarters 22-14 and 17-11 respectively to seal a 28 point game.

“It wasn’t an easy game, its just that the better team won,” noted Zama. “Like I said earlier, as champions we have got to double our efforts from last season.”

Zama scored a joint game high 16 points, littered with two good shots made from her four attempts outside the the point arc.

The 2018 MVP playoffs player who has now averaged 13.5 points, added three rebounds and four assists to her tally on her way to winning the player of the match.

Jane Asinde produced her best performance since joining from Magic Stormers – The former Buddo student grabbed 13 points and 4 rebounds. Akello had 9 points and 12 rebounds.

Ruth Atuheire scored a double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds in a losing effort.

JKL Lady Dolphins have now won their opening three league games. The side beat KCCA in the opener before edging UCU Lady Canons.

This is the second loss for A1 Challenge who beat UMU Ravens before falling to YMCA lady hamsters.

JKL will return to the court against unbeaten KIU Rangers on Wednesday May 1 as A1 will play UCU on Friday May 3.
