3X3 World Cup: Gazelles Flagged Off To Puerto Rico

Uganda Women’s National Team – the Gazelles will take part in the FIBA 3×3 World Cup Qualifiers scheduled to take place from May 4-5, 2019 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Flagging off the team at Lugogo on Tuesday, NCS’ acting general secretary David Katende urged the girls to raise the Uganda’s flag high.

“Let’s go there and see that we qualify, let’s show them why we are ranked number one,” Katende briefly remarked.

Uganda sends back the same team that played in 2017 tournament in Russia.

Jamila ‘Zama’ Nansikombi, Claire Lamunu, Sarah Ageno and Rita Imanishimwe are the four players on the team. Nicholas Natuhereza (coach) and FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi (head of delegation) are the officials on the traveling contingent.

Uganda, ranked 21st in the world is in Pool A with Estonia who are ranked 7th. Australia (27) and the hosts Puerto Rico (63) are the other teams in group A.

The team will target to finish among the top three teams to qualify for the FIBA 3×3 World Cup which is due to take place from June 18-23, 2019 in Netherlands.
