ITF Pro Circuit: All Set For Second Edition

Uganda Tennis Federation is set to host the second edition of the largest tennis event in East Africa – The International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Pro-circuit.

The event will start on May 6, 2019 at Lugogo Tennis Complex, going for three weeks.

Over 60 players have entered the tournament, including last year’s winner Russian Ivan Nedelko.

Uganda will be represented by the Davis Cup team comprised of David Oringa, Simon Ayella, Edward Birungi and Frank Tayebwa who will get wild card entries to the main draw.

“Its an exciting time to have ITF pro circuit running for the second year,” said Uganda Tennis Federation Association President Cedric Babu who was speaking during the launch of the prestigious tourney on Tuesday morning at Lugogo.

“We are hosting this for the second year running since being reinstated by ITF and this shows the trust they have in us. I encourage everyone, especially parents to bring their kids to enjoy the atmosphere.”

Babu also commended the sponsors – National Council of Sports, Jibu Water, Spe Taxi services, Speke Group of Hotels and AAR – for supporting the sport in the country.

The tournament’s format will see qualifications on Saturday and Sunday. The single’s main draw running from Tuesday to Sunday (finals of the tournament week and doubles main draw will be played from Tuesday to Saturday (finals) of the tournament week.

Week 4 – Anton Chekov (Rus)/Duncan Mugabe (Uga)
