NBL: KIU Titans Bring JKL Dolphins Down To Earth

Sunday, May 5
*Angels 39-69 JKL Lady Dolphins
*KIU Rangers 54-56 A1 Challenge
*UCU Canons 90-82 City Oilers (after 2 overtime)
*Our Saviour 43-66 Betway Power
*JKL Dolphins 54-68 KIU Titans

KIU Titans handed JKL Dolphins their first loss of the season with a 68-54 win in one of the league games played on Sunday at YMCA court in Wandegeya, Kampala.

The Titans looked impressive and played as a team to record their third win, second in a row, in what had earlier proved to be a poor start in the 2019 campaign.

Coach Brian Wathum’s charges led 33-22 at the long break and mainted their 11 point lead after a 18-18 third quarter before winning the last ten minutes 17-14 to seal a deserved 14 point game.

The result sees Titans climb the 12 team log with a 3-3 record (three wins and as many losses). JKL on the other hand, who had won four games including one against Betway Power, will look to reset when they face Ndejje on May 11 before a tough one against City Oilers four days later.

Michael Bwanga, the only Titan player to reach double figures, racked up 14 points and seven rebounds. Oscar Muge was just short of a double double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Francis ‘Odom’ Kasinde paid back his 30 minutes with eight points, nine rebounds and three assists.

Led by Collins Kasujja who had seven points, KIU bench contributed 25 points against JKL’s 14.

JKL’s Daniel ‘Dudus’ Manoja should not have ended up on a losing side after scoring 21 points and added six rebounds to his game high.

The Dolphins were poor from the three point range, making one from 14 attempts. They shot 18-61 on the field in total.

Titans will take along break before returning to the court against Sharing Youth on May 26 and Ndejje Angels the following day. Then after, they will face Our Saviour, KCCA Men and UCU Canons in the first five days of June.

David Deng had 37 points as UCU Canons shocked City Oilers to remain unbeaten in a game played under intense YMCA heat.

Geoffrey Soro’s 14 points helped Betway Power return to winning ways with a 66-43 win against winless Our Saviour.

Agnettah Kambua had 15 as Ruth Kirungi managed 12 in A1 Challenge’s hard fought 56-54 victory over KIU Rangers.
