The earlier decision by USPA to name Kasana Secondary school as the Best Sports Personality of the concluded month of April is a reminiscent, in fact tantamount to April fools day. Pun intended.
The country’s Sports Press Association on a Monday sitting named Kasana Luwero SS after their triumph at the concluded National Schools Boxing Championship where they won in both categories – Boys and girls.
However, USPA has turned back the decision after finding out that event which Kasana was voted upon actually took place in March, not April.
It should be noted that the association’s monthly sports personality voting criteria recognises success attained between 1-30/31st of a month.
“We regret the error and apologises for any inconveniences this may have caused,” reads a well articulated document that is seen by this website, clarifying on the matter, signed by USPA General Secretary Johnson Were.
Consequently, USPA’s executive has decided to give the honour to Uganda Premier league champions KCCA FC. The club had finished right behind Kasana SS in the votes and are thus April’s best by default.
KCCA FC beat Paidha and Express FC before sealing the title with a needed draw away to Ndejje University FC to clinch their 13th league crown. The side had also avoided defeat against rivals Vipers in the same month.
USPA’s awarding dinner is expected to be held on Wednesday, May 8 at Imperial Royals Hotel.
