It was a big Saturday for the newly promoted teams in the Men’s National Basketball League, after picking their first victories.
Falcons, joint record winners with six rings, squeezed past Our Saviour 62-59 in a close contest that could have gone either way down the stretch.
Despite getting less support from the bench, only 10 points coming from Michael Kojo, the side managed to remain in character for an important win.
Henry Mbazira exploded for 17 points, Francis Karoro (13) and Dickson Asiku (11) reached double figures.
Stephen Wokorach grabbed a game high 22 points while Diego Angemi brought 14 for Our Saviour in a losing effort as the side remains unbeaten.
Our Saviour, despite winning the last quarter 18-17, were good value for the loss after shooting an ugly 25% from the field and making 20 turnovers.
Falcons had lost their opening four games – falling to Sharing Youth (59-63), City Oilers (34-81), Ndejje Angels (63-81) and KIU Titans (56-84).
Falcons will have no time to rest, and their survival credentials will be tested by Warriors on Sunday. There after, they face three games in a space of three days against KCCA (May 24), JKL Dolphins (May 25) and Kampala University (May 26).
Kampala University Flourish
Ahmed Kassa shot 4 for 11 from the perimeter to garner 23 points in Kampala University’s maiden win since attaining top flight status.
Joram Kato (14) and Patrick Seduce (13) added Powerful contributions in a strong Kampala University victory. The University side had lost to City Oilers, JKL Dolphins, KIU Titans and Warriors. They face Ndejje Angels on May 18.
JKL Dolphins managed seven points in the second quarter for Ndejje University to benefit and inflict a 70-57 loss to Sam Obol’s team.
Innocent Ochera led the way with 21 points while Sam Ajack and Gauthier Badhera had 18 and 13 points respectively.
JKL Dolphins suffered their second loss in a row after previous wins against Our Saviour, KCCA, Kampala University and Betway Power. The side had earlier lost KIU Titans 54-68.
