Uganda Cranes: Madondo, Majwega Off AFCON List, Replacements Named

Brian Majwega and striker Joel Madondo have deliberately been removed from the Uganda Cranes provisional squad that starts preparations for the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The developments were confirmed on Monday morning during a Question and Answer press briefing with Cranes Coach Sebastien Desabre held at Kabira Country club.

Kirinya Jinja SS striker Madondo is said to be in Turkey for trials while Maroons defender Majwega has been sidelined due to disciplinary reasons which have been withheld.

Express’ fullback Disan Galiwango turned a midfielder, has been added on the list to replace Majwega after a wonderful season amidst Express struggles.

Dan Mzee Sserunkuma who was initially on the COSAFA team replaces Madondo.

The recently summoned AFCON squad is a provisional with locally based players. However, Daniel Isiagi, Bevis Mugabi and Khalid Aucho have also been added to the squad after their seasons ended.

Goalkeeper Denis Onyango, Moses Opondo and Isaac Muleme will also join the team.

The AFCON squad has started their residential camp at Kabira country club.

Desabre will then select some players for the 26 man squad for further training in UAE to join the foreign based contingent.

Defenders: Bevis Mugabi (Yeovil Town FC), Disan Galiwango (Express FC), Godfrey Walusimbi (Unattached), Awany Timothy (KCCA FC), Halid Lwaliwa (Vipers SC), Mujuzi Mustafa (Proline FC)

Midfielders: Khalid Aucho (Churchill Brothers), Hassan Wasswa (unattached), Ibrahim Sadam Juma (KCCA FC), Tadeo Lwanga (Vipers SC), Allan Okello (KCCA FC), Moses Waiswa (Vipers SC)

Forwards: Daniel Isiagi (Al Nassr FC- Egypt), Allan Kyambadde (KCCA FC), Juma Balinya (Police FC), Patrick Kaddu (KCCA FC), Dan Mzee Sserunkuma (Vipers)
