NBL: Has JKL Dolphins Parted Ways With Coach Sam Obol?

Uncertainties surround JKL Dolphins coach Sam Obol’s future at the club.

JKL Sports Club have elevated Henry Malinga to the role of head coach for both JKL Dolphins and JKL Lady Dolphins, this website has learnt.

The development fuels rumours of sacking the former Falcons legend despite having a good start to the ongoing campaign.

The Men’s team occupy second place on the 12 team log with five wins and two losses – The team lost Ndejje Angels (57-70) and KIU Titans (54-68). However, they have had more positives, highlighted by a 67-66 win over six time defending champions City Oilers.

The Lady Dolphins on the other hand, have won seven from as many games and remain the only unbeaten side in their category.

JKL Dolphins will return to action against Falcons on May 25, and it’s expected that Obol may not be with the team. However, the club are yet to comment on Obol’s future, currently.

Obol at glance

Obol was born and raised in Entebbe, Uganda and graduated from Makerere University Kampala with a Bachelor’s of Economics and a Masters of Economic Planning and Policy.

He has both played and coached joint NBL record winners Falcons, and has four championships to his name.

He also for captained Uganda Silverbacks to the East and Central Africa Championship in 2005.
