NBL: Ekone Ignites Nkumba Past MUK Sparks

Brenda Ekone was the hero, as she has always been, in Nkumba Lady Marines’ 69-51 win over MUK Sparks in a league game played at YMCA on Sunday.

Ekone, last year’s regular season MVP scored a game high 26 points off 10-21 shooting, added seven rebounds and three assists in a game that was delayed for over an hour due to rain.

Catherine Haruri added 19 points for Nkumba who only fetched three points from their bench.

Ruth Nangiro scored 10 points in a losing effort for the side that shot 37% from the field and made 19 turnovers.

The result leaves Albert Aciko’s girls winless since joining top flight from lower division last season.

The victory was the fifth for Nkumba from eight games – Their three losses came against JKL Lady Marines, UCU Lady Canons and KCCA Leopards.

Next for the Lady Mariners is a tie against KIU Rangers on May 25 before facing Angels on June 9.

Georgia ‘ Jojo’ Adhiambo (7) in action

Elsewhere, Georgia Adhiambo had 28 points, Vicky Ntale and Florence Nanyonga contributed 13 and 11 points respectively as A1 Challenge made light work of Angels to win 72-55.

Ndejje Angels punished Sharing Youth 94-63 with Innocent Ochera garnering a game high 26 point tally on a wonderful evening.
