UCU Canons successful ended Warriors unbeaten run with a 62-60 victory in a National Basketball League encounter played at YMCA court in Wandegeya, Kampala.

Coming into the game, Warriors had won their opening six games it looked like they were getting their seventh win after leading 49-44 going into the last frame.

Warriors extended their lead to 7 points, leading 58-51 with just five minutes to end of fourth quarter. However, a late surge that yielded points from Caesar Adoke, Titus Lual and Fadhil Chuma saw the Canons knot the game 60-60 with 34 seconds left before Chuma laid up for what turned out to be the difference in a tight contest.

The Canons 25 of 76 from the field, 30% from beyond the arc and out rebounded Warriors 54-50 despite getting just eight bench points compared to Warriors’ 22.

Isaiah Mabeny Ater led the way with 19 points, Caesar Adoke had 14 while Fadhil Chuma contributed a double double of 13 points and 15 rebounds for UCU.

Michael Buzangu had 11 points for Warriors. Stanley Mugerwa and Amisi Saidi added 11 points each. The latter who had 10 rebounds was playing his first game this season.

Both sides, UCU and Warriors, have now lost one game and won seven. Nicholas Natuhereza’s University side will face JKL on May 26 while Ronnie Mutebi’s Warriors will seek to return to winning ways when they face Sharing Youth on May 29.
