Defending six time champions City Oilers beat KCCA Men to end the first round of the National Basketball League on a strong note.

Oilers won 78-52 in a game played at KIU court in Kansanga.

Ivan Muhwezi led the way with a joint game high 16 points. The youngster came from the bench to shoot 7-12 from the field. He added four rebounds and three assists to his impressive tally.

Daniel Juuko had 12 points in his best game of the season after playing 24 minutes on court. Jimmy Enabu also reached double figures with 11.

Kijogoo Mwalimu (16 pts) was the only KCCA player to score in double figures. Andrew Gang and Marc Mathe had 8 and 6 respectively.

Oilers led the first quarter 15-5 and never looked back to seal a comfortable win in a game they shot 26-of-60 from the field and 62% from the line. They were however out rebounded 35-42.

Mandy Juruni’s team ends the first round on top of the log with eight wins and three losses – They fell to JKL Dolphins, Warriors and UCU Canons.

Warriors (8-1) and UCU Canons (8-1) will finish above Oilers if they win any of their remaining games.
