It’s been a week of mixed emotions in the Sports Industry. Saidi Lugolobi breathed his last, a Uganda Cranes kits manager at the 2017 Afcon finals in Gabon. Moses Waiswa returned home after an injury forced him to withdraw from AFCON Camp in Abu Dhabi.

On a pleasing note, it has been a busy schedule elsewhere, including the start of the UCA National Men’s 50 over cricket league, the Semis of the Entebbe Singleton Challenge and not to forget USIU’s friendly with Rugby Cranes at Kings Park Stadium in Bweyogerere.

Regatta In Nabugabo

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi graced the third edition of the Buganda Annual Royal Regatta Boat Championship.

This, was held on Saturday 8th, June 2019 at Nabugabo Sand Beach in Masaka.

Buddu took the Championship, followed closely by Bulemeezi and Busiro in second and third place respectively.

Kabaka also enjoyed the feel of water transport amidst cheers from the huge multitudes. The competition which is in its third edition is headed by Engineer Ben Missaga.

Makerere Ladies Triumph

Makerere University Ladies football team clinched the 2019 FUFA Women Cup.

The side defeated Lady Doves in the final played on Saturday at Lugogo stadium.

Jemima Twesigye and Fatuma Nandawula were on target as MUK won the third edition. Olila High and UCU Lady Cardinals won the previous tourneys.

Uganda Cranes fluffed against a team that is ranked 136 in FIFA Rankings. An Asian country with just a population of 5.6 million.

However, Coach Sebastien Desabre opted for an experimental side
stars like Denis Onyango missing out.

The warm up game ended goalless but saw defender Murushid Jjuuko sent off in the second half of the game.

Warriors Machines Escape To Rwanda

Warriors Congolese duo Michael Buzangu and Hamis Khamis (Melo) left the country for Rwanda to take part in the Genocide Memorial tournament.

The two, played for Patriots alongside familiar names like Michael Makiadi and Aristide Mugabe but their luck ended at the final where they lost to Kami Kabange’s REG.

The tourney, organised every year in honour of the over one million people that were killed during the 1994 Genocide. Former UCU guard Rosine Micomyiza was named MVP (Women).

The 5th edition of Bunyoro Empango run was held on Saturday in Hoima and was flagged off by the Omukama Omukama Rukirabasaija Agutamba Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I as Bunyoro Kitara celebrate the 25th coronation.

This was sponsored by leading online betting company Betway, with proceedings going towards health centres in Hoima and Kiryandongo areas.
