UCU Canons returned to winning ways with a convincing 80-54 one-sided win against Mukono counterparts JKL Dolphins in a National Basketball League encounter played at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

In a game watched by Silverbacks Coach George Galanopoulos, the Dolphins looked utterly dull, flat and lifeless compared to their previous performances against ‘big teams’.

Not to take away much from UCU, JKL had a bad day in office as Henry Malinga’s side made 20 of 62 attempts from the field including an ugly 16% from the three point range.

In what was supposed to be a tight affair, UCU Canons dismissed all forms of resistance to take a 21-15 first quarter lead before closing JKL out in the second quarter to win 24-17 and open a 22 point difference going into the long break.

The Canons, sharing the ball exquisitely and shooting 45% from the field, managed to hold and sealed a deserved 26 point game.

David Dikong contributed 12 points. Chuma Fadhil had 11 points, Titus Lual managed 10 rebounds and stylish point guard Fayed Baale impressed with six assists.

UCU Canons also had Peter Sifuma (12), Jerry Kayanga (10) and Caesar Adoke (10) come off the bench to score in double figures. The Canons had 37 points off the bench against JKL’s 11.

The result means that UCU complete a double against JKL who missed Ivan Lumanyika. UCU won the first round game 58-71 on May 26.

Nicholas Natuhereza’s Canons have now won 11 games from 13 games, this was their first win in second round after opening with a loss against Betway Power at YMCA last Friday.

JKL Dolphins have lost four games in total – Twice against UCU Canons and one each against KIU Titans and Ndejje University Angels.

Both sides return on court this Saturday (June 15). JKL will look to bounce back against Our Saviour while UCU face KCCA Men in the last game of the day at Lugogo.
