Netball World Cup: Loughborough’s Mary Nuba Optimistic About She Cranes Chances

Uganda’s camp in preps for next month’s Netball World Cup received a major boost following the arrival of UK based Mary Nuuba Cholhok on Monday.

The tall shooter, speaking to NTV’s Sam Mpoza on Tuesday after She Cranes training session at Lugogo said that Uganda has the ability to upset odds in Liverpool.

“We just need to play as a team not as an individual because we will be representing the whole of Uganda,” Nuba said. “We can do better out there, am very confident.”

Nuba, after impressing and helping Uganda to claim the World University Championship in Makerere, joined Loughborough Lightening in England as a replacement for Peace Proscovia who left to Australia.

“It was hard for me in England especially in the first two weeks as I had not got used to everything like the weather and food. But now everything is conducive.

“I have learnt a lot as a player including the drills, shooting, recovery stuff and am ready to put all this to use and help my country perform better at a world stage.”

The towering former Nkumba University student claimed the Vitality Netball Goalden shot award at the close of the 2019 Vitality Netball Super League season.

The She Cranes are expected to intensify their preps with a residential training camp before the week ends or at the start if next week.

Unlike Nuuba, Sunshine Coast Lightning (Australian league) Peace Proscovia is expected to join the team in UK.

Born – January 3, 1998

Parents – Agaar Chut Dhiew and Nuba Maper

Place of Birth – Rumbek, present day South Sudan.

Fact: Nuba left S.Sudan in 2004 because of conflicts between the Sudanese government and the then rebels of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA).
