Uganda’s preparations for Zone five Basketball championships have been on a pause recently after the Federation had failed to acquire a training facility.
The teams – Silverbacks and Gazelles – had planned to tipoff their training last week but the unavailability of Lugogo Indoor Arena has been a hindrance.
It should be noted that the Zone Five tourney will be held at Indoor Arena in Lugogo, from June 26.
Reports have it that the team will enter residential camp on Tuesday, June 18 at Africa Bible University in Lubowa, Entebbe Road.
Efforts by the Basketball Federation – FUBA – to acquire Lugogo have hit a dead end and the side has opted to train at the University after with Lugogo proving to be busy mainly with the Netball team carrying out their World Cup training.
Both camps have however been boosted by the arrivals of foreign based players – Gazelles’ Urysla Cotton (BA London Lions) came in the country on Sunday. Silverbacks’ Brandon Davies arrived today (Monday).
About eleven countries are expected to come to Kampala – Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Tanzania.
The competition will serve as the 2019 AfroBasket for Women qualifiers (Senegal, August 9-18) and Afrocan for Men.
