Uganda’s Lady Cricket Cranes got off to a poor start against Tanzania in the opening game of the Genocide Cricket Memorial Tourney, locally known as the Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament for peace.

The team has now shifted focus to their next game on Wednesday against hosts Rwanda who tore Mali women apart in the second game on Tuesday.

Led by Pascal Monica who hit 53 runs from as many balls, Tanzania who finished third last year, set 113 for the fall of nine wickets – The side had won the toss.

Uganda chocked in the chase, right from the start with Damalie Busingye falling for a duck while reliable duo Immaculate Nakisuyi and Rita Musamali managed a disappointing 10(10) and 19(32) before leaving a big Chuck to the tail end.

Esther Ilukor revived proceedings with her 38 runs (not out) that included four boundaries but lacked a reliable partner as Uganda failed to mount a challenge at Gahanga Cricket Stadium.

After Kenya, who has won the tourney for the last three years failed to turn up, it promises to be a tight race on who will be the new champion.

Fall of wickets
2-1 (Damalie Busingye, 0.4 ov), 9-2 (Prosvovia Alako, 2.4 ov), 21-3 (Immaculate NYAKISUYI, 5 ov), 50-4 (Stephanie Nampima, 12.2 ov), 52-5 (Rita Musamali, 13.1 ov), 70-6 (Joyce Mary Apio, 15.4 ov), 77-7 (Sarah Walaza, 17 ov), 99-8 (Susan Kakai, 19 ov), 105-9 (Evelyn Anyipo, 19.4 ov)
