Uganda Cranes’ forward Emmanuel Arnold Okwi has said that his side has to continue working harder if they are to achieve set goals.
Okwi was speaking to the press shortly after Uganda stunned DR Congo in a 2-0 victory at Cairo International stadium.
Patrick Henry Kaddu put Uganda Cranes in a shock lead inside 15 minutes before Okwi doubled the advantage with a beautiful header off Farouk Miya’s freekick.
“It has been an important victory for the team because we had not won any game in last campaigns,” said Okwi who first thanked his teammates for the win.
“Our target for this campaign has been working together to get the best results in every game that we go to and that’s the inspiration we have been onto not as individuals but together as a team to get the best results possible.”
The striker who turns out for Tanzania’s SC Simba was named man of the match against DR Congo for his contribution which was highlighted by his goal at the restart.
He added that Uganda is not resting on its laurels as the job is far away from done.
“Its nice to get the three points but it also awakens our next opponents, so we just have to keep working so hard and make sure that we get another victory, because if we don’t get best results in the next game it will look like we did nothing in this game.”
Uganda Cranes will face Zimbabwe on Wednesday before playing hosts and hot favourites Egypt as the East African nation up their quest to go past group stages.
