Former City Oilers player Kami Kabange will look to lead Rwanda’s senior men team through the storm of FIBA Africa Zone five Championship due June 26 in Kampala.
Rwanda will face Egypt in their opener before facing Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya in the following fixtures where a winner after the round robin qualifies to Afrocan.
It should be noted that Rwanda in 2017, together with Guinea were awarded a wild card to play in AfroBasket after finishing second in Zone five held in Egypt then.
This time round, Rwanda will not take chances.
“We have had good preparations,” Kami told this website. “You can notice that we have lots of young players on the team because we want to make long term plans.”
“We are ready to take on anyone. We are a shooting team, we have experience and we have good big guys.
When asked to talk about how it feels to return to Kampala, to face some of his former teammates, he noted:
“It’s good to face people you know because you always aware of what to expect. I know there moves and I hope that it can help us win.
“Uganda is our toughest opponent because we always face off. It will not be easy for them because we all want to qualify. Our target is to focus on one game at a time.”
Beside Kami, Rwanda will hope to draw inspiration from their star player Ken Gasana.
It should be remembered that Rwanda beat Uganda 92-79 in group B world Cup Qualifiers last year.
