Kenya’s Michael Makiadi is cheerful upon return to Uganda after leaving in 2017 for greener pastures.
The big man will seek to lead Kenya Morans over tough opponents in Egypt, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda in the Zone Five Championship with a ticket to Afrocan at stake.
Makiadi played in the National Basketball League with Betway Power where he spent three years before crossing borders to join Rwanda’s Patriots.
“It feels good coming back to Uganda,” started Makiadi. “It is always a good feeling to play against former teammates.”
“We are here to win, it will be a good statement as a country because we have actually gone down, we used to be a power house. We want to come back to winning ways.
“There is no underdog in this tourney, every country has brought their best players. You can’t choose who to beat and who you will lose to. You just have to remain focussed. We have to respect everyone if we are to qualify.”
Makiadi is one of the three players on the Kenyan team to have played in the Ugandan league. Desmond Owili had stints with UCU Canons while Brian Namake is currently at JKL Dolphins.
The team will greatly rely on Denmark based Tyler Okari but coach Cliff Owuor and his assistant Carey Odhiambo will seek for 100% contribution from the whole team at large.
