Volleyball: Must Know About NSSF KAVC International Tourney

The 23rd edition of the NSSF KAVC International Volleyball tournament was launched on Tuesday midday at UOC offices in Lugogo.

The much anticipated showdown will serve off on August 2-4, at the MTN indoor Arena in Lugogo.

The objective of this year’s tourney is to provide high level international volleyball competition.

This tourney, is organized yearly to celebrate the foundation of Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) which was formed in 1970.

The tourney has for about a decade been Sponsored by National Social Security Fund (NSSF) with other partners for this year’s edition including Pallisa Agro-processors, Coca-cola, UOC, NCS, UVF.

The tourney has had many participating clubs from outside Uganda – From Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda and South Sudan.

This year’s edition will have an increase in prize money for both genders, a move which awaits confirmation from the headline sponsor.

The Centre court shall be the Lugogo Indoor with the Hockey pitch being an auxiliary venue hosting some games as well.

It should be noted that KAVC are the record winners for both male and women competitions with seven and eight trophies respectively.

Uganda’s Sport-S have won the men’s category four times, while Rwanda’s trio of Kigali, Inatek and APR have won it thrice. Muzinga (Burundi), Blue Tiger (Rwanda), Nzoia (Kenya), Sky (Uganda) and Unik (Uganda) have one title each.

In the women category, KCCA has six titles, Rwanda’s RRA have three titles. Five other teams have won it once – Nairobi City Council (Kenya), NCBD (Kenya), Nkumba University (Uganda), Aspire (Kenya) and Ndejje University (Uganda).
