AFCON: Uganda Cranes Carry Out Late Training After Private Meeting

Following news that have made rounds on media about how Uganda Cranes players boycotted training on Tuesday due to unpaid allowances, this trend almost continued on Wednesday.

The training session which was scheduled to be held at 7PM almost hit a snug when the players again did not turn up for training as expected.

From the camp’s residence at Raddison Blue hotel, it is alleged that players vowed not to step on the pitch until $6000 is fully cleared.

The players, it is said, held a private meeting amongst themselves and after almost a four hour delay, in a sombre mood, arrived at 9:45 PM and kick started the late night training.

The session, first since Uganda lost 2-0 to Egypt in the final group A encounter, was held under the tutelage of Coach Sebastien Desabre with all players present except Hassan Wasswa Mawanda who extracted a tooth.

“The outstanding bonuses of players have all been cleared and players only await for commitment from FUFA on the qualification fee to kick start everything,” said Sports Minister Charles Bakkabukindi.

The minister also added that it wouldn’t take players that extreme decision ahead of such a decisive fixture.

“I don’t think it is right for players to do this, you play the game and get sorted after.”

Playing a Senegalese team that has won all its two games against East African teams Kenya and Tanzania in this ongoing tournament, it’s remains to be seen if the recent strike will greatly impact the result at the Cairo International Stadium come Friday.

Uganda is expected to make their last training session on Thursday at 4:30PM.
