AFCON: Am Not Taking Penalties Anymore – Mane

Senegal’s striker Sadio Mane doesn’t only double as one of the Tournament’s top scorer but also tops the chart for most missed penalties at the ongoing AFCON tournament.

The speedy forward has now taken three penalties and has only scored one against Kenya, the same game he missed a penalty still.

The Liverpool forward had his penalty parried away by Uganda Cranes goalie Dennis Onyango but had earlier caused enough damage to see his side reach the quarters.

The soft spoken Champions league winner exclusively opened to this website after the game:

“Yes, am not taking any penalties again in this tournament,” Mane reluctantly laughed off as he entered the team bus.

This statement came just less than an hour after Senegalese coach Aliou Cisse had stated that Mane is still their penalty taker and they still have trust in him.

Safe hands – Onyango

In the quarter final, Senegal will take on Michel Dussuyer’s Benin who, with a man down, shockingly ejected favorites Morocco via shootouts.

Senegal is one of the few Africa powerhouses that have never won the AFCON title and they would want to end capitalise on this star studded generation to change history.
