NBL: UCU Canons Thrash Lacklustre KIU Titans

UCU Canons made light work of KIU Titans as the National Basketball League (NBL) returned from a long break at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

After losing 58-64 in the first round reverse fixture, UCU Canons capitalised on KIU’s inadequacy in quality to inflict revenge – Titans missed Michael Bwanga and Denis Balungu.

UCU led 33-19 at halftime, won the third quarter 15-10 before closing KIU to only 4 points (28-4) to seal a dominant display that saw most fans leave the arena midway through the last quarter.

Fayed Baale engineered proceedings as Joas Maheta and Isaiah Mabeny Ater scored 18 and 17 points respectively in a game where non of KIU Titans managed to score double point figures.

Sudi Ulanga scored a team high eight points, Collin Kasujja and Nunda Kiryowe had six points each for KIU who shot an ugly 10 of 70 from the field.

UCU were 45% from the field, out rebounded KIU 58-43 made five blocks on their way to clinching University bragging rights.

This was the second loss from as many games in the second round for KIU who had earlier lost 52-67 to reigning six time champions City Oilers.

UCU have now won 13 games from 15 league attempts this season.
