In a bid to develop coaches that will train future boxers in the amateur (AIBA) setting, the world boxing governing body with that of Uganda have organized a rare course.
This, was held at Kati Kati restaurant in Kampala and a number of 25 coaches are taking part in an exercise that will last for a week of studying before climaxing with exams.
Moses Muhangi the president of Uganda Boxing Federation while talking with this website says that they are to hold more courses in various departments in the boxing sport to uplift the standards:
“At the start of our time in office, we started with coaching referees and judges and they are now bringing a difference in officiating and now its coaches and later we look forward to equip doctors, ITOs and others.”
The chief instructor is AIBA coaches instructor from Ghana, also a former Ghana national team coach Mr. Ofori Asare representing the world governing body. He has been key in promoting many prominent Ghana boxers like Emmanuel Gameboy Tagoe, Rafael Mensah etc.
Some of the prominent coaches who are taking part in this exercise include Police head Coach Daniel Kasole, Herbert Kalungi of sparks boxing club, Khalil Musa of East Coast Boxing Club, Mercy Mukankusi of Zebra Boxing Club among others.
Many coaches told this website that the initiative was long overdue as they had earlier could not take part in high profile tournaments.
