Chan Qualifiers: Uganda Cranes Edge URA FC In Practice Match

Uganda Cranes team, in preparation for CHAN qualifiers, have beaten premier league side URA FC in a practice match played at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.

Vipers’ new recruit Allan Kayiwa bundled home in the 12th off Patrick Kaddu’s low assist for the only goal of the less eventful affair played at a hot turf.

Uganda Cranes are expected to enter residential camp after Thursday’s evening training session and the side will travel to Hoima on Friday ahead of Saturday’s regional tour against Kitara region.

“We are yet to focus on Saturday’s game,” Cranes acting coach Abdalla Mubiru told the journalists after the game. “We are assessing our game basing on what we have been doing since we started training.”

Coach Mubiru who doubles as th Police FC tactician, changed his starting XI at halftime with only left back Disan Galiwango retained.

In the first half, Allan Kyambadde had a shot kept out in the 10th minute before Kayiwa scored in the 12th minute.

In the second stanza, the Cranes side penetrated URA FC thanks to Proline FC’s youngster Bright Anukani’s silky passes but the forwards failed to live to the task.

Nelson Ssenkatuka had a keeper to beat but his shot was just wide off the mark. Mzee Dan Sserunkuma shot direct at URA goalkeeper Alionzi Nafian.

Coach Mubiru added:

“We are not worried about missed chances. We played according to plan especially in the first opening 30 minutes, we cab rectify our mistakes and may be how we build up from the back.”

Uganda Cranes of local-based players playing will face Somalia on 27th July in Djibouti in the 1st leg before return leg on 3rd August in Kampala.
