NBL: Dudus Optimistic As JKL Seek Double Against City Oilers

JKL Dolphins’ Daniel ‘Dudus’ Manoja is confident and positive as his side prepare to face reigning six time champions City Oilers in the National Basketball League.

The two sides will face off at YMCA court in Wandegeya, Kampala in what is expected to be a pulsating affair.

JKL Dolphins won the first round tie 67-66 on May 15 at YMCA and will fancy their chances to complete a double.

However, since then City Oilers have flipped the switch, winning eight league games in a row.

“We are in a right place mentally and physically,” noted Dudus while speaking to this website exclusively. “And we understand that they’re on a winning streak. We hope to end that streak.”

“Winning the first round tie doesn’t put us in a better position because every game is different. We are still the underdogs. However, us having beaten before means we can do it again.”

JKL have won 11 league games this season and lost four. Their last loss came against UCU (54-80) but have since beaten Our Saviour and KCCA Men.

City Oilers will play their second game without head coach Mandy Juruni who is said to be in the United States for coaching related matters.

JKL will seek to capitalise on that advantage of a facing a coachless-Oilers, however, they will need to double their efforts if they are to stop a high flying Oilers.

Dudus who posted 14 points and 8 rebounds as JKL beat Oilers in the first round, added:

“We have to execute offensively, make our free throws count, play good individual and team defense and most importantly rebound better both offensively and defensively.”
