CHAN: Uganda Cranes’ Awany Warns Of Somalia’s Threat

Uganda Cranes defender Timothy Awany has said that they should be cautious about their CHAN opponents Somalia.

Uganda Cranes team of locally based players will face Somalia in the CHAN qualifiers away on July 27 before hosting the return leg on August 3 in Kampala.

“We should not take them (Somalia) for granted, Awany noted after Monday’s session. ” Somalia may seem like an inferior team on paper, we know less about them but those are the teams that always give us headache.”

“We just have to polish ourselves and make good preparations.”

The Uganda Cranes have been training at Lugogo since July 14. The side lost beat URA FC 1-0 before falling by the same scoreline to Kitara Region select in build up games.

Awany, who showed good signs in the concluded 2019 AFCON, is expected to play at the heart of defence with either Express FC’s John Revita or Proline FC’s Mustafa Mujuzi.

“We are set, We have been here for eight days in training, we are progressing and catching up with everything that the coaches want us to do” Awany added.

The CHAN team is coached by Abdallah Mubiru, Livingston Mbabazi and Sadiq Wassa.

If Uganda manage to negotiate past Somalia, will face winner on aggregate between Burundi and South Sudan in the second round.
