NBL: Failure To Execute Plays Cost Us – Ikong On Loss To JKL

Betway Power’s small forward Joseph Ikong says that his side failed to execute plays as the big factor in their loss to JKL Dolphins.

Power suffered their fifth loss, second against JKL this season, falling 77-85 in a pulsating affair at Indoor Arena on Wednesday.

Ikong, who recently represented Uganda at the concluded 2019 FIBA Africa Zone five Championship in Kampala, noted that his side will try their best and come back better and stronger.

“We failed to execute our plays, but I think it’s because we have been on a holiday, we haven’t been playing much in a while but I think it’s something we are going to improve,” Ikong, the former Power captain noted after the loss.

“We had good spells, there is a time we closed down the game but you know Basketball is a game of seesaws.

“We need to work on our finishing, this is something which is easy, and may be also work on our defence.”

Ikong notched 17 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists in the loss. Phillip Ameny and Isaac Afidra added 18 and 15 points respectively in a losing effort.

The Betway sponsored club looked the second best on the day they were utterly taunted by JKL’s Brian Namake and Brian Muramba, a pair that combined for 50 points.

“We play as a team but there are spells when things are not going in our direction.”

Power has managed 10 wins from 15 games, and could face a tough opposition in the playoffs.

Speaking about what awaits them at the end of the tunnel, he narrated:

“Playoffs is a different ball game, everyone will talk about the seedings but you realise that every team has atleast lost a game. So, in the playoffs, you need to play your A-game.

“We are one of the biggest teams, actually we are the biggest team, people have to be avoiding us, not us avoiding them.”

Arnold Lando and Boniface Okello coached side will return to action at YMCA against Warriors in what promises to be another grueling duel.
