Boxing Federation Receives Boost Ahead Of Novice Championship

Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) has on Monday unveiled ‘BetOn’ betting company as their new sponsor ahead of the 2019 Novice championship.

Both parties have agreed to first have the partnership informal.

“For now its a pilot project, we have not had the formal arrangement with them in terms of sponsorship but they are trying out with us which is very welcome. We hope they get value from what we are giving them” said Moses muhangi, UBF president.

The partnership has seen new sponsors BetOn formally “Betin” providing full boxing kits for the entire event worthy Sh20M and its expected to raise up to Sh100M if the bosses get impressed according to company’s brand ambassador Fifi Phiona Pinky.

Fifi noted:

“The partnership will continue, this is just a simple measure of equipment, but if we are impressed we could go up to Sh100 because UBF is transparent and its our role as BetOn to pay back to society, our bettors, to develop and grow the country.”

The bookmakers have joined other partners, like UNAIDS, infectious disease institute(IDI), UNwomen and American embassy who are already working with the Boxing Federation.

Moses muhangi called on every sponsor to partner with UBF because its now a credible institute with a proper financial system.

About the Novice
The tournament is excepted to run for one full week, starting from 1st – 8th August 2019 at Kira road police play ground, Kamokya, the same very week in which the Referees and judges AIBA star-one certification course will be conducted at Katikati hotel.

Boxers will go for medical check up on Tuesday at lugogo before weigh in and draws on Wednesday 31st July.

Boxers will enter action from 1st-5th (preliminary round) before going in for a rest day on 6th August, and they will return in action for finals on 7th and 8th.

However, on 6th August 2019, there will be announcing of the final squad which will make it to the national team (bomber) to represent the country in All African games.

The contingent of 25 boxers are current in camp at Luzira training, but they will be reduced to only 13 boxers (5 ladies and 8 men) in the name of national team final squad at Kamokya come 6th August 2019.

Novice championship, attracts boxers from schools championship, junior championship and any single active boxer who gather to compete.

Its an entry point for boxing, because boxers who win at novices they cross over to intermediates then to national open, so it’s a very noble championship.

Over 10000 boxers are expected to turn up for this years championship.
