Wednesday, July 31
*MUK Sparks Vs KCCA Leopards – 6:30PM
*City Oilers Vs Betway Power – 8:30PM

City Oilers and Betway Power will go head to head on Wednesday in a much anticipated Tusker Lite sponsored National Basketball League at the Indoor Arena In Lugogo.

This is probably the biggest basketball rivalry in the country as the most successful team (Oilers) meet the most supported club (Power).

The teams will put their pride on the line, and current form will matter less as fight for places on the log takes another big twist.

Five time league champions Power have not won a league title in the last six years – since Oilers came into the picture. Power photo.

Oilers won the reverse fixture 69-66 in the league opener, and Oilers’ guard Jimmy Enabu banks on this record going into the big clash.

“Our first round win puts us in a good position,” Enabu, who also doubles as the National team captain, told the-SportsNation.com.

“It means that we did something right to win the first game. Hopefully we can do it again.”

Power has lost two of their last three games – Lost to JKL and Warriors – And have more reasons to say that this will be a game of their life.

“Struggling teams can stop struggling by having one good game. So I don’t think timing would mean much in this case,” Enabu on whether this is the right time for them to face lowly Power.

On what they should do as a team to rub more salt in Power’s wounds, the tricky guard revealed:

“We need to play together, with the right energy and we will give ourselves a good chance at winning the game.”

Power’s Problem is themselves

Power has enough armoury to gun down any team in the league. No one doubts the ability of Joseph Ikong, Syrus Kiviiri, Philip Ameny among others on their roster.

After their second round loss to JKL at Lugogo, Ikong revealed that his side has not had adequate training sessions. It is reported that it takes days for the club to have a full house during training.

Syrus Kiviiri has been their outstanding player of the season, and they have to rotate everything around him if they are to edge Oilers who have won eight straight games.

Syrus leads the league’s points log with 321. He has had 58 assists and made 49 three pointers!

Oilers will on the other hand miss the services of coach Mandy Juruni who is still in USA for studies.
