FIBA Africa U16: Najjuma Wins Big As Uganda Finish Fifth

Maria Najjuma has left a mark at the recently concluded 2019 FIBA U16 Women’s Africa Championship.

The powerful centre, was named among the best five of the tournament and also won the accolade for best rebounder.

Najjuma averaged a double double of 27 rebounds and 17.8 assists in an impressive performance.

The Junior Gazelles, debuting on the continent, finished fifth after beating Rwanda 66-51 in the placement game. Najjuma had 19 and 31 points and rebounds respectively in the victory.

Elsewhere, Mali beat Egypt 84-48 to win their sixth title from as many editions.

Mali’s Mariam Coulibaly who was integral in their triumph, scored a game high 30 points to make the team of the tourney.
