Super Eight: Mutombora Lifts Vipers Past Mbarara To Reach Finals

Friday, August 9
*Vipers SC 1-1 Mbarara City
(Vipers win 5-3 on penalties)

Goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora was the hero as Vipers managed to overcome Mbarara City in shootouts in a FUFA Pilsner Super Eight fixture.

The Shot stopper kept out Ronald Otti’s penalty before he converted the winner to send the Venoms into the finals.

Tito Okello, Allan Kayiwa, Abram Ndugwa and Frank Zaga Tumwesigye are the other players who scored in shootouts for the Venoms.

In an end to end affair, Brian Ahebwa fired Mbarara City into the lead when he capitalised from Vipers sloppy defending to loop past Mutombora in the 75th minute.

The lead was short lived however, with substitute Tito Okello put through on goal by Abram Ndugwa to level a minute later.

Mbarara City who had knocked out URA FC 2-0 in Kakyeka, put up a commendable performance. The side played and dominated possession despite playing on an artificial turf.

Paul Mucureezi had the first chance but shot direct at Mutombora from close range, and the shot stopper later denied Brian Ahebwa who headed Okwalinga’s freekick.

Ivan Eyam also forced Mutombora and Makueth Wol had his header swept off the line by Siraje Ssentamu.

Vipers will wait for the winner between KCCA FC and Onduparaka FC in the finals.
