NBL: City Oilers Outclass Warriors For 15th Victory

City Oilers dispatched rivals Warriors 83-59 in a Tusker Lite sponsored NBL game played on Saturday at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo, Kampala.

Oilers, without head coach Mandy Juruni, trailed 20-22 after the first quarter but came back stronger to take the second quarter 25-15 and take a 45-37 lead into the restrooms.

The six time champions continued to exert pressure and dominance to win the third and last quarter 16-12 and 22-10 respectively to seal a deserved win.

Oilers shot 30 of 76 from the field, were 72% from the line and out rebounded Warriors 49-41 in a commanding performance.

Oilers who had lost the reverse fixture 66-68 on May 10, had Landry Ndikumana (14), Francis Chisioke Azolibe (14), Jimmy Enabu (12) and Josh Johnson (11) score in double figures.

Michael Buzangu had a game high 21 points, Chris Omanye and Aaron Trevour Ojoo contributed 12 and 10 respectively in a losing effort.

This was Oilers 15th win of the regular season from 18 games. Their losses came in the first round against JKL, UCU and Warriors. They have won 11 games in a row, 7 straight in the second round so far.

The side still has UCU, Sharing, KCCA and JKL on their menu before the post season.

Elsewhere, Peter Sifuma garnered 31 as UCU Canons battered Falcons 80-42. Douglas Uwizera and Henry Mbazira made 11 and 10 points respectively for Falcons who made 0-21 from the three point range.

Patricia Cate Nakiru managed 12 points but the tally wasn’t enough to rescue Angels who lost 31-50 to KIU Rangers. The University side had Rachel Akinyi Adhiambo collected a game high 21 points before Ines Kanyamunza added 15.

Action between UCU and YMCA

The Lady Canons set the day’s tone with a 120-27 ruthless win over struggling YMCA Lady Hamsters.

Action resumes on Sunday at the Indoor after lunch with A1 facing UMU Ravens, MUK go head to head with defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins before Betway Power and Sharing Youth meet.
