Basketball: Zama Out As FUBA Reveals Team For All Africa Games

JKL and Gazelles star Jamila ‘Zama’ Nansikombi has shockingly been left out of the 3×3 Women team that will represent Uganda at the 2019 All Africa games.

The team of four, has UCU canons and JKL Lady Dolphins players – Abei Priscilla and Sarah Ageno from UCU, with JKL duo Rita Imanishimwe and Hope Akello make the contingent.

It should be remembered that Zama, highly rated in Africa, has been part of Uganda’s 3*3 teams that has even competed at the World Cup stage.

Her exclusion this time may not be anywhere connected with her form but her engagements elsewhere, The-SportsNation.com sources have learned.

It should be noted that 3*3 basketball will be one of the new sports at the Africa games.

The teams will be fighting for world ranking points with the top three teams will qualify for 2020 Tokyo based in the November world rankings, alongside hosts Japan.

Uganda will take a women team only in 3×3 basketball, although FUBA wanted to also have the men’s team included but NCS zeroed on one. The development leaves the men’s team out despite the fact that they are the 2018 Africa Cup finalists when they lost to Ivory Coast.

The Gazelles will compete with other countries like Mali, Togo, Niger, Ivory Coast and Nigeria in Morocco.

Over 7,000 athletes from all the 54 nations are expected to converge in Morocco capital Rabat for the 12th edition of the African Games set from 19-31 August, 2019.
