Police FC head coach Abdallah Mubiru anticipates a very competitive 2019/20 Uganda Premier League season.
It should be noted that the UPL season will kickoff on Thursday, August 29, 2019.
While speaking to the press at Metha stadium, Lugazi on Tuesday afternoon after his club’s friendly 1-0 win against newly promoted Kyetume FC, coach Mubiru explained that teams have prepared well and there are good grounds to host matches which is going to boost competition.
Police FC, through Samuel Kayongo’s strike in the 35th minute, beat Kyetume 1-0 in friendly at Lugazi.
“This time round we expect a very competitive league compared to last season because teams have continued to prepare well and pitches are good though not that good,” Mubiru noted.
Mubiru commended the UPL organising committee, saying that they heard his humble cry of forcing teams to play on good pitches which enables good football.
“This times round, the grounds on which games are going to played on are at least far better than last season which enables players to play good football.
“We are going to see the increase in standard and competition, meaning the league brand is going to rise which gives us hope that in coming future even more money will be coming in the league.”
He however sympathized with the fans who are going to be affected by the change of home grounds by their team.
“I understand the pain of the affected fans, but we need football to be played on good pitches because even fans ask us good football which we cannot have from poor grounds.
Police FC will host their league games from Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium. They had initially requested to host games at Kavumba Recreation centre but were denied.
The Peace keepers open up their league race on the road against Onduparaka FC at Luzira Prisons Stadium on August 30th, 2019.
Police FC finished 11th on the log with just 10 wins from 30 league games.
