Volleyball: Proceeds From Nkumba Open To Help Kid With Heart Complication

The proceeds from this year’s KCB Nkumba University Volleyball Championship will be channelled to help a boy who is having a heart complication, the organisers have confirmed.

The annual tourney was launched on Thursday during an event held at D’melos restaurant in Kampala.

This year’s tourney will take place from 6 to 8 September at Nkumba University sports complex.

Club official Godwin Ssenyondo revealed that they decided to conduct a CSR activity that will be highlighted by a car wash for three days to assist a young boy who is having a complication on his heart.

Benedict Tukushaba, is a 10 year old who needs Sh18M for a surgery on his heart is a pupil at St Agnes Centre for Education in Mbarara born to Lawrence Rwita and Evelyn Ninsiima.

As explained by his sister Flavia Kanyesige, also a Volleyball player at Nkumba, Benedict is a joly and playful boy but has been feeling pain this whole year and will need surgery at Mulago or in India due October 21, 2019.

About the tourney:

Over 40 clubs are expected to grace the tourney including some from South Sudan.

Notably, a selected team from Italy where Nkumba held its tour earlier this year will be among the participants.

For the first time, the tourney will also accommodate Corporates category.

St James (boys) and Sunrise (girls) are the defending champions in Primary school category.

Boston High (boys) and Katikamu SDA (girls) hold the Secondary School titles.

Nkumba won for both, in institutiona category. UCU doves and KCB Nkumba have the clubs trophies.
