Golf: Babirye Crowned Ladies Open Champion

Martha Babirye is the reigning Uganda Golf Club ladies open Queen after clinching the tourney at the par 72 Uganda Golf Club course, Kitante, in Kampala.

Babirye collected 149 gross, beating Peace Kabasweka (150) and favourite Irene Nakalembe (153) in a two day event.

She becomes the second winner in history after Nakalembe won the inaugural edition last year with 152 points.

The event also saw men play a subsidiary category in a championship that attracted 213 golfers.

The two day event was bankrolled by Tusker Malt, Gofan Safaris and the Uganda Communications Commission.

Best players received prizes in a classy award ceremony before Janzi Band closed down the event with live band music.

The Uganda Golf Club Ladies Open tournament was first introduced on the local golf calendar as an annual exciting golf competition in August, 2018.
