City Oilers managed to fight back and outclass KCCA Men in a Tusker Lite sponsored NBL game played at YMCA court in Wandegeya.
The defending champions trailed by seven points at one stage, but it was a five point deficit at the long break as KCCA Men looked to upset the odds.
With the score at 30-35 in KCCA’s favour, Oilers put up a formidable third quarter which they won 31-13 before easing into the last quarter 20-15 to seal a deserved 81-63 win.
Tony Drilleba shot 6 of 15 from the field to collect 18 points, Ladry Ndikumana also had 18 while Jimmy Enabu (12) was the other Oilers’ player with double figures.
The side missed James Okello and Ben Komakech, the former participated in the recently concluded East Africa Military games.
Richard Ongom contributed 14 points for KCCA Men before Kijogoo Mwalimu and Marc Mathe added 12 and 11 points respectively in a losing effort. Mutumba and Francis Mbuyi also weighed in with 12 and 10 rebounds for KCCA Men.
This was Oilers’ 18th win of the season from 21 games. The side will face JKL Dolphins on Wednesday to end their regular season games.
Oilers will have to settle for second place after Nicholas Natuhereza’s UCU Canons sealed their place at the top.
