URA Vs Maroons: We Want To Be The League’s Toughest Opponent – Bamweyana

Maroons Coach Douglas Bamweyana says that he wants his side to be the toughest opponent in the league this season.

Maroons will start their 2019/20 league campaign on the road as they visit URA FC at Namboole.

This, will be Bamweyana’s first competitive game as a coach at the Luzira Prisons side.

The former Express FC tactician, joined Maroons in preseason after parting ways with SC Villa towards the end of last season.

“I believe we are very well prepared to compete with anybody in the league,” Bamweyana told the-SportsNation.com in an exclusive interview. “We hope to be the toughest opponents in the league.”

“We want to use the first five games to confirm our belief as a team that we can cause several upsets on road to having a very good season compared to last season.

“The game against URA provides a very good opportunity to gauge how we measure against the top sides in the league – yet confident in our preparations and that we have full trust that we have enough quality to get the result we need.”

Maroons’ only positive last season was that they managed to survive relegation – The side finished 13th, a place above the red zone with 33 points after collecting eight wins and nine draws.

Bamweyana will rely on an attacking force that has Steven Mukwala who was acquired on loan from Vipers Fred Amaku, Rashid Agau and Pius Obuya.

Davis Mayanja who joined after being released by Express FC, goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo are some the other new signings to look out for.

No Excuse For Ssimbwa

URA FC begin as top favourites to break KCCA FC – Vipers duopoly.

The side managed to retain a crop of stars that helped them finish third last season like James Alitho, Shafic Kagimu and Saidi Kyeyune.

The club signed David Bagoole to fill ghe void left behind by Siraje Ssentamu who returned to Vipers.

Hassan Kalega, Najib Fesali, Ashraf Mandela, Ivan Sserubiri, Mikidad Ssenyonga, Brian Majwega are some of Ssimbwa’s new signings.

Head To Head:
Last season, Maroons beat URA FC 1-0 thanks to Brian Majwega’s strike – This was the first win for Maroons against URA in ten attempts in the league.

The first round game had ended one all with Rashid Agau scoring for Maroons before Joakim Ojera rescued a point for URA FC.
