*Mbarara City FC Vs Proline FC – 4:00PM
(Luzira Stadium, Luzira Prisons)
Mbarara City new coach Brian Ssenyondo will go for maximum points when his side face Proline FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
This will be the first game for Ssenyondo in top flight who joined from Synergy FC after the Ankole Lions parted ways with Livingston Mbabazi.
Ssenyondo was recently appointed as a head coach in acting role as the club continues to find a suitable man for the job.
Ssenyondo will be targeting for a positive start so as he can claim stake for the role on a permanent basis.
He has already proved his worth in the concluded Pilsner Super Eight where he finished third after he beat Onduparaka FC. He had beaten URA FC in quarters but lost to eventual title winners Vipers who needed shootouts.
With Vipers and KCCA FC favourites for this year’s title, Mbarara will be one of this season’s chasing pack just like URA.
They have managed to retain a core of last season’s players that helped the team finish fifth with 46 points.
The Mwine Mpaka sponsored outfits who will start the season away from Kakyeka Stadium due to license issues, have added Gaddafi Gadinho, Solomon Okwalinga, John Adriko and Bashir Muweesi and goalkeeper Tom Ikara.
Captained by Hilary Mukundane, the Ankole Lions will rely on their attacking prowess of Brian Aheebwa, Paul Mucureezi, Ivan Eyam, Jude Ssemugabi and Makueth Wol to break Proline.
Just like Mbarara, the visitors start their campaign with Matia Lule as the head coach after the departure of Shafic Bisaso who helped the team to Big league and Uganda Cup triumph, not to mention their first historical continental win.
Lule who has been in local football for a while, will bank on the team’s tik-tak game to frustrate Mbarara City.
Proline FC come into the game on the back of a humiliating loss to KCCA FC in the FUFA Super cup but will hope to bounce back in Luzira.
This will be the third meeting between the two teams in the league.
Fahad Bayo, Sulaiman Matovu and Joseph Mandela gave Proline FC a 3-0 win against Mbarara in 2017/18 season at Lugogo.
The second round game ended one all with Emmanuel Obina (Mbarara) and Daniel Isiagi (Proline) on target at Kakyeka.
