NBL Playoffs: Here Are The Matchups

The 2019 Men’s National Basketball League regular season reached its climax on Friday with Warriors beating KIU Titans 55-46 at YMCA court in Wandegeya.

All teams have played 22 games each and the playoffs puzzle is complete. We are now all set for the business end in the Tusker Lite sponsored league.

Kampala University and Our Saviour have been relegated back to the division one. This was Kampala University’s debut season in top flight.

Warriors and City Oilers will meet only in the semis if they win their respective quarter final qames. FUBA

Sharing Youth and Falcons finished 9 and 10th respectively, outside the playoffs brackets, and have been given enough time to prepare for next year’s season.

UCU Canons finish as the top seed having won 19 and lost three games, the same tally as Oilers but Nicholas Natuhereza’s charges take the top spot courtesy of a better head to head against the six time winners.

The Canons will take on KCCA Men in a 1 vs 8 matchup for the quarterfinals which will be played on a best of three (race to two) format, pending official communication.

Action between Oilers ans Betway Power in the regular season

Oilers will have to negotiate past Walker Obedi’s Ndejje University Angels as they intensify their chase for a seventh league crown in a row.

The interesting ties are 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 – (Warriors Vs KIU Titans) and (JKL vs Betway Power).

The bad news for Betway Power is that they lost to JKL Dolphins twice in the regular season, but the good news is that they will have Geofrey Soro and Philip Ameny available for selection after serving their bans.

Notably, Ivan Lumanyika has also returned for JKL Dolphins and played in their last game against City Oilers.

Its not known whether Warriors will have their Congolese trio of Amisi ‘Carmelo’ Danny, Jonathan Kambala and Michael Buzangu available when they face KIU Titans.

Winner between UCU Canons and KCCA will face JKL Dolphins/Betway Power in the best of five (race to three) semis. Oilers who are expected to beat Ndejje will wait for the winner between Warriors and KIU Titans in the other semi. The final will be played in the best of seven format.
