UPL: Mucureezi, Mbarara Hand Proline Rude Welcome

Saturday, August 31
*Mbarara City FC 3-0 Proline FC
(Luzira Prisons ground)

Mbarara City FC gave newly promoted Proline FC a harsh welcome to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

Paul Mucureezi bagged a brace and Brian Aheebwa scored the other goal as the Ankole Lions registered a commanding 3-0 victory against Proline at Luzira.

The deserved win for Brian Ssenyondo against Matia Lule’s Proline sends the Ankole Lions joint top with URA FC who also beat Maroons by a similar scoreline on Friday at Namboole.

Jude Ssemugabi’s Proline’s defence for Mucureezi to convert in the 25th minute.

Proline’s best chance in the first half fell to defender Bernard Muwanga but he shot direct at Tom Ikara to fluff a keeper-to-beat chance.

Proline struggled to create clear cut chances thereafter due to a waterlogged Luzira pitch which affected their style of play.

Leku Alfred, Bright Anukani and Bogere Ivan were introduced in to replace Hamisi Kizza, Bunjo and Kiwanuka Hakim in that order but the trio’s introduction failed to yield positive results for the visitors.

Brian Aheebwa doubled Mbarara City’s lead at the hour mark with a shot at near post with his left foot from Ibrahim Orit’s pass after Muwanga lost possession inside at the edge of the box.

In 83rd minute, Mucureezi completed his brace – a third goal for Mbarara – from a penalty kick after he was pulled down by Muwanga in the forbidden area.

Mbarara City will visit SC Villa on Wednesday at Namboole while Proline FC will host Onduparaka FC at Lugogo on the same day.
